How To Crochet
Crocheting is fun, and easy! Pick up your yarn and hook, and you are ready to start.
Hold the crochet hook
You will want to try with another ways of holding the crochet hook until you get one that is comfortable for you. Several people hold the hook like a knife, others hold it like a pencil, and several have their own unique grip. The necessary thing is that you have control over the tip of the hook and for that your hand must be relaxed and comfortable.
Hold the yarn
Hold the yarn so that the earlier stitches (or the slip knot and tail, if you are just starting your first stitch) is between the middle finger and thumb of your left hand. The yarn of the ball feeds up over the first finger of your left hand and then under the other fingers. You will create stitches using the section of yarn between your first finger and thumb, and you can settle the tension on the yarn by moving your first finger up-down. The yarn tension helps to keep the stitches even and smooth.
Making stitches
- Tie the yarn onto the hook with a slip knot to begin crocheting. After the knot is made, pull that gently against the hook.
